Bradfield Organics® Early Spring Garden Tips, 2007
While the ground may still be frozen and the chill wind whistling
around your ears, it is nonetheless time to start preparing for
Spring’s upcoming lawn and garden activities. Even if you
are in the far North and spring seems months away, it is still
a good time to take stock of the status of your lawn mower, replace
broken garden tools and torn gloves, and break out the seed catalogs.
If you did not fertilize your trees last fall, now is a good time
to do it. Simply dig a series of very small holes around the dripline
of the tree and place fertilizer in the holes (Bradfield Organics®
Lawn & Garden™ 3-1-5 works well). As your tree emerges from
dormancy, the fertilizer will be working with soil microbes to
provide needed nutrients. In more southern climes, it is also a
good time to begin pruning winter-killed branches from trees and
shrubs.
In the more southern portions of the U.S., this is a good
time to put down Bradfield Organics® Luscious Lawn 9-0-0 corn gluten
meal. Not only will it provide nitrogen to your reawakening lawn,
it will act as a pre-emergent herbicide to prevent germination
of weed seeds. Now is also a good time to add Bradfield Organics®
natural fertilizer and some compost to garden beds you’ll
soon be planting. The fertilizer, compost and soil microbes will
interact
to make soil nutrients available for seeds and transplants you
will soon be putting in the garden. Mixing fertilizer and compost
can often result in a short time of “heating up” as
microbes get very active. This heat can be hard on tender seedlings,
so preparing the beds prior to planting and getting the seedbeds
past that heating period allows new plants to get started without
any temporary setbacks.
It is also a great time to add Bradfield
Organics® Pasture & Farm
to fields and pastures that will soon be sprouting new spring grass.
For pastures needing an extra boost or some help in shifting composition
away from weeds and toward clovers and grasses, Bradfield Organics
Luscious Lawn is a great choice, as it will suppress germination
of weed seeds. Remember, you don’t need to remove animals
from the fields when you use these safe and natural products!
Use
Bradfield Organics® natural fertilizer products this season to
safely build your soil, increase the beneficial soil microbe population,
and
put
your lawn, garden and pasture on their way to greater natural
beauty and productivity.
